Barn Stored Hardwoods / Softwoods ( Requires Longer Drying Time ) - Seasoning wood takes time. Our firewood is stored in our barn for approx 2 months before letting it go. This is intended to be stacked as illustrated and left for a period of time to bring the moisture content down to an acceptable level of around 20 %
Recommended bits and bobs - Log Store, Moisture meter for probing your wood to check when it's ready to use
(manufacturer of your stove will give you firewood moisture content guide lines that are suited to your particular stove), Pair of gloves to protect your hands when handling firewood

There are lots of different type Log stores but they all have a lot in common
Their main function is to store wood while it is seasoning or seasoned
The wood will be correctly seasoned by being stored cut, split & exposed to sun & wind / air
so that the wood can be dried out ...

A. The wood needs to be covered on top.
B. The wood can be left with open sides, you might want to cover on the wind side
to make sure the rain does not get to the wood too much.
C. The wood needs to sit off the ground on a dry surface.
